How to beat the heat!

7 ways for your hair to beat the heat this summer!

At long last summer is here, and as the temperature rises we all do the necessary steps to prepare for this glorious time. We get new sunglasses to protect our eyes, the new sunscreen on the market, but what about our hair!? What do we do to prep our hair in the heat of the summer months!?

Whether you frequently use heat styling tools, spending lots of time in the pool or soaking up some much needed rays to erase the winter months we have 7 simple tips to help you cure the most common summer hair ailments, and will keep your locks looking fresh, healthy and ready for summer!

1. Protection

1. Protection

Hanging out in hot sun can be damaging for your hair. The sun’s heat drains out moisture from your hair, leaving it dry, faded, and prone to breakage. The easiest way to keep the sun from drying out your hair is to wear a hat on the days you know you will be spending a long time in the sun. Or buy yourself a few pretty scarves so you can be stylish while you protect your hair.

2. Humidity

3. Dryness and frizz

2. Humidity

Target products with moisture in them. If you use heat in your hair and don’t add moisture to it, when you go outside, the hair will absorb the moisture in it and that's when the humidity affects it. Go for a leave-in conditioner. Smoothing a leave-in conditioner over your tresses before hitting the humidity will keep your hair plumped and prepared and in theory, block out unwanted moisture.

HEALTHY SEXY HAIR Soy Tri-Wheat Leave-In Conditioner ($17.95)

The powerful combination of Soy and Cocoa work synergistically to perfectly care for your hair! A conditioner that is both a nourishing moisturizer and mild protein reconstructor and safe to use on color-treated hair. This truly amazing conditioner reconstructs, moisturizes and combats environmental stress on all types of hair.

Yes to carrots Leave-in Conditioner ($8.88 Target)

With the aid of super moisturizing Agron oil and beta-Carotene packed organic carrots (yes it’s made of carrots), this Paraben-free formula in one we feel quite good about applying daily.

3. Dry, frizzy hair

Search for moisturizing products or visit a salon for treatments that act as injection of strength and conditioning into the hair. If treatment and conditioner aren't enough, get a haircut. Sometimes the ends of the hair are past the point of no return and products just won't do it. Also, conditioning color would help to restore the natural shine and gloss of the hair. Always reach for products with labels that say ‘moisturizing’ and ‘restorative,’ and slather them on thick and let them set to infiltrate the hair follicles.

Nexxus Frizz Defy Leave-in Oil Shine Treatment  ($7.89 Amazon)

We like to comb a quarter-size dollop of this lightweight oil into our hair after showering. Let the Argan oil and coconut extracts penetrate your strands for all day hydration.

Oribe Signature Moisture Masque ($62.00)

A super-rich indulgence. This crème de la crème deep-hydrating masque transforms even the driest, most over-it hair, leaving it supremely soft and irresistibly touchable. For a little extra pampering we suggest pairing this thick mask with a shower cap and long bath!

4. Problem: Sun Exposure

Sun exposure not only can damage your skin but ravage your hair. Our hair is exposed more than anything, so a simple solution is to use products with UV protection. If you’re going swimming, make sure you a product that is also waterproof. Reapply regular sunscreen every time we go outside.

Products: black 15-in-1 Miracle Hair treatment ($11)

With hair smoothing and soothing ingredients like Keratin and Aloe Vera, the product's UV protection can be evenly spritzed through your tresses but waterproof — it is not. However, a $11 purse-size (1 ounce) is a suitable compromise for poolside touch ups.

Sol Perfection Beach Protectant ($11.00)

Sol Perfection Beach Protectant is a water resistant sun protection cream. With IOPS technology and Anti-Oxidant, this beach protectant creme protects against the ravages of the sun, sea, and pool water. Fused with grapefruit and thyme, it provides a sleek, shiny, wet look with a soft feel. Contains UV filters. To be used before or after swimming, or while sunbathing. Apply on damp or dried hair, finish the hair style and allow to air dry. Not to be used while blow-drying! Suitable for all hair types.

4. Sun Exposure

5. Greasiness

5. Greasiness

Only use  conditioner from the mid-length to the ends, not many people need to apply it to the roots. If you have naturally oily hair, a color treatment will also help absorb some of the excess oil. Also try a ‘volumizing’ conditioner because it tends to be naturally lightweight. It has a more watery consistency that won't weigh down your hair but still do the trick on your oily tips.

Veganese Conditioner ($9.95)

Veganese by Lush is not only a  vegan product ( substitutes animal-derived lanolin with seaweed extract), it use natural ingredients (lavender and lemon) to boost the healthy appearance of your hair without the weight of traditional conditioner.

VO5 Extra Body Volumizing Conditioner

Before you look your nose up let us pled our case - when it comes to lightweight conditioners, this milky-texture classic comes out on top. It can be found in most drugstores and mass retailers and typically priced around $1. All around that’s tough to beat.

6. Chlorine damage

 7. Hydration

6. Chlorine damage

Deep cleansing shampoos are the way to go when it comes to chlorine in your hair. This product will remove the chemicals and then the next time you shampoo, switch off for something that’s more nourishing to condition the hair. When it comes to chlorine you need to focus on the scalp. Even though your locks are fully exposed to chlorine with every splash and dip, your hair’s health first begins with a clean and clear scalp. Deep cleansing shampoos will rinse harmful pool chemicals away from your roots.

Ouidad Climate Control Shampoo

Climate Control Shampoo is a gentle, defrizzing formula that provides long-lasting protection from texture trouble like frizz, flyaways and unwanted volume. Free from sulfates, which can be damaging to the cuticle, this shampoo empowers curls with a breathable humidity shield that locks in moisture and seals out frizz.

Clear Scalp and Hair Therapy Ultra Shea Cleanse and Nourish shampoo

Not only does this shampoo aim to bust through excess scalp build-up right at the root. It coats your strands and reduces frizz and dryness and has fighting shea butter.

7. Stay Hydrated

Lastly but definitely not least drink, drink, drink (water that is!), and lots of it! Water will keep your scalp and roots hydrated. Water is a vital medium of energy exchange for ever single cell, including the cells which supports hair growth and its overall health. If your hair roots get inadequate water supply your hair will eventually become nutrient deficient and may even stop growing. Eat healthy and drink plenty of fluids to keep you and your hair beautiful and healthy.
